Chester House Knap-in – May 2026
The Lithic Studies Society will be holding its very first Knap-In on Saturday 9th May 2026 in the beautiful grounds of Chester House Estate, Irchester, Northamptonshire.
The event is aimed at intermediate and experienced knappers, and is an opportunity to gather and exchange insight, techniques and materials. There will be no instruction provided, but members of the LSS committee will be on hand to ensure everything runs smoothly, and will be happy to chat about the archaeological assemblages and artefacts they work with.
Participants need to bring their own knapping kit. We will have some safety goggles and gloves available but encourage all participants to bring their own if they can as every participant will be required to wear them. We will have a little Norfolk flint on hand for the day, but please bring any of your own material you might like to work on!
The event is open to all knappers with prior experience, whether you are a member of the Lithic Studies Society or not. Numbers are limited to 15, on a first come first served basis.

- Food and drink are not provided – there is a café (The Farmhouse) on site or please bring a packed lunch!
- We will be outside, so please ensure you bring appropriate clothing for the weather and temperature. Sturdy shoes (no open-toes) are also required.
- Attendees are required to read and adhere to our risk assessment, and to sign a waiver form. This will be sent to all attendees prior to the event, but can also be filled in on the day.
- Parking is available on site, and lifts from the nearest stations (Wellingborough or Northampton) may be available with prior arrangement, please email email hidden; JavaScript is required.

Cancellations
In the unlikely event that we have to cancel the event, we will notify participants by email and provide a full refund.
Refunds can be provided if a cancellation request is made for any reason up to 14 days before the workshop. If you buy a ticket and can no longer attend, we request that you let us know as soon as possible so that we can refund and re-advertise your ticket, as we may have a waiting list.
