Knap-in at Chester House, Northamptonshire

The Lithics Studies Society will be holding its very first Knap-in on Saturday 9th May 20026 in the beautiful grounds of Chester House Estate, Irchester, Northamptonshire.

The event is aimed at intermediate and experienced knappers, and is an opportunity to gather and exchange insight, techniques and materials. The will be no instruction provided, but members of the LSS committee will be on hand to ensure everything runs smoothly, and will be happy to chat about the archaeological assemblies and artefacts they work with.

Participants need to bring their own snapping kit. We will have some safety goggles and gloves available but encourage all participants to bring their own if the can as everyone will be required to wear them. some seats will be available but we suggest you bring your own camping chair or equivalent if opposable. We’ll have a little Norfolk flint on hand for the day, but please mirin any of your won material yo might lie to work on!

Please note:

There is a lower age restriction of 18. Numbers are limited to 15, on a first come first served basis.

Food and drink are not provided – there is a cafe (The Farmhouse) non site or please bring a packed lunch.

We will be outside, so please ensure you bring appropriate clothing for the weather and temperature. Sturdy shoes (no open-toes) are also required.

Attendees are required to read and adhere to our risk assessment, and to sign waiver form. This will be sent otherwise all attendees prior to the event, bu can also be filled on the day.

Parking is available on site, and lifts from the nearest stations (Wellingborough or Northampton) may be available with prior arrangement, please email events@lithics. org.
