Frederick specialises as a researcher in the Palaeolithic and early Prehistory. His interests include hominin behaviour, lithic technology, the Acheulean, and the Middle/Upper Palaeolithic Transition. Frederick has conducted fieldwork focusing on a variety of periods in Britain, Europe and the Near East, and has been involved in large scale projects including the ERC funded “DISPERSE – Dynamic Landscapes, Coastal Environments and Human Dispersals” project in conjunction with the University of York. He has previously worked as the Assistant Editor for the European Journal of Archaeology and an editor for volumes concerning experimental archaeology and Palaeolithic/Mesolithic research. He is currently based at Durham University and provides expertise as an freelance lithic analyst to commercial units in the North East (https://www.dur.ac.uk/research/directory/staff/?mode=staff&id=6581).
