Lithics: Notes for Contributors
Recently the Lithic Studies Society decided to make some
small changes to how Lithics is edited and produced. These changes are
detailed below, but most importantly of all we wish to stress that
these changes are in no way intended to exclude 'amateur'
contributions, and that we still place great emphasis upon receiving
contributions from all members of the Society, including short notes
and letters (e.g. unusual artefacts, visits and anything else) .
These developments are merely to streamline the production process,
provide a formal peer review process, and more evenly spread an annual
work burden that fell entirely on the editor.
To ease this process we have moved to solely electronic submission via
e-mail. However to help us oversee and follow submissions, please
follow the Style sheet (click here) and
include our Cover Sheet (Form LS1).
This form will enable you and us to track the progress of your
submission, provide feedback of reviewers comments, and generally
maintain contact during the editorial process.
You can also download a correctly formatted Sample paper (click here)
and a Microsoft Word (.dot) template (click here).
All potential authors and contributors should note that any submissions
which do not follow the style sheet guidelines will be returned to you
for re-formatting. This helps ensure that Lithics is published
on time every year.
The review and publication process works as follows:
- Initial e-mail submission of manuscript to the Editor, accompanied by form LS1 (click here).
-
Manuscript reviewed by two anonymous reviewers and decision
(accept /reject) returned to the author /lead author (for multi-author
papers). If manuscript is accepted, author /lead author informed of
the Editorial Board member who will be involved with the remainder of the
editing and submission process.
- Re-submission of modified manuscript (unless rejected, or accepted without need for editing).
- Second review of manuscript and comments returned to author /lead author from member of Editorial Board.
- Final submission of manuscript and hard copies (print outs) of any images.
Approval by Editorial Board and return of proofs to author /lead author.
- Publication of manuscript in Lithics.
The annual timetable for submissions is as follows:
- < May 31st: Initial submission deadline.
- June 30th: Return of reviewers comments and editors decision.
- July 31st: Re-Submission of revised version of manuscript.
- August 31st: Return of reviewers comments on revised version.
- September 30th: Final submission of manuscript (including hard copies of images).
- October 31st: Receipt of proofs.
It greatly helps the process of submission and publication if all
authors can be aware of these deadlines, and notify their Editorial Board
member if they will be uncontactable at any of the key dates.
If
you have any queries regarding the submission process (and in
particular regarding the submission of digital images)
please contact Dr Rob Hosfield.
